Mauritius Roti Recipe
|
Ingredients
3 cups of white four (farine)
6 tbsp melted butter or ghee
1.5 cups of warm water
Pinch of salt
Seive the flour and add the salt.
Cooking Instructions
* Rub 2 tablespoons of melted butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs
* Gradually add warm water to make a soft dough. Cover the dough mixture and set aside for at least 10 minutes.
* Divide the dough into eight portions and form each into a ball and then roll out into circles.
* Brush each circle with melted butter and fold over into a half circle.
* Brush again with melted butter and fold over once more into a triangle.
* Roll out the triangular shape.
* Grease a hot griddle or tava (frying pan) and place the rolled out bread onto it.
* Fry for 1 minute approximately on each side. It may be necessary to turn more often to ensure thorough cooking and prevent burning.
